          March Newsletter      Reading Abbey RFC

Hi all,
Sorry about missing Feb's newsletter, my new role at School has turned me into a workaholic.
Its nice to see the weather warming up which means its nearly Summer, and the awesome Summer events. Can't wait for the easter weekend and Fat Boy sevens, as Fungai says I should qualify for it this year.

Juniors
I hear along the grape vine that the under 14's have several County players that have progressed well, and also that the possible club team of the Year is the Under 17's. Greebo's boys have been smashing teams with particular note to the recent beating of Maidenhead.

Seniors
Still on Greebo, his development team has a new strip which can be seen in the local rag and also on our website. A big thank to Tim, Luke, Greebo and Treacle that have contributed towards the new playing strip. It has inspired some great recent wins, in particular over Bracknell, with Gingell scoring a plethora of tries.
First's have shown some real heart in recent games, however struggled to field a team last weekend against Cheltenham, however, with the team that went stood strong and did Abbey proud. I hear that Fungai "george gregan" played scrum half and had a decent game!!!!

Events
This weekend the club is busy busy busy.

Friday night - The berkshire cup continues with a game at home v Enginenannainanais.

Also a night with Victor Ubogu is on the same night. £25 a ticket see or ring Gordo!

Saturday - The club will be open for the last games of the 6 nations. Suuport the club and get up there to watch the last 3 games of the 6 nations. Entrance free !!!

Also coming up is the MAG boke rally which is held over the easter weekend, See news for more detail. We are still looking for helpers. Come join me on the BBQ!!!!

Committee
Sadly today Brian Rennell stood down from the committee with immediate effect, so we now are seeking an enthusiastic member of the club to take over the role of Events Manager! If you are keen to see the club move forward please let me know.

Also if you are able to help with the planning of this years Dinner Dance please let me know, I am keen to have a marquee up at the club and hold it on our home territory!! However, with possible continuing on being Chairman I need help in running this event.

Finally the AGM is coming up. I would love the support of ALL member of the club to turn up and also consider being a pro active member of the club. The club is what we make it!!
I am looking for any young (or old) enthusiastic forward thinking individuals to bring the mighty Reading Abbey Forward into 2009 / 2010. Many positions needed so you can have a say in how we make our club!!

Hope to see you soon,

Burchy

Jazz up the content  Jake Mollett | 10/06/2008 at 18:00

I've been getting some feedback through about the web content. Consensus is that there is not enough in the way of images. That's because nobodies sent any! I'm also aware thatr there are no mini pages, thats no problem we can set those up. Its all ready to go, I'll get a list of teams and set them up for you.

Cudos to Lee Buller for sending us a new logo banner thats much better than my tawdry effort. I'l upload that today, well done Lee.

Album libraries can be created by members on the site or by the web master. These can be linked to news stories and events so that people see an image with the story and get a whole album of images if they click through.

For news or events send title text, body text and images together. Indicate which image is the main one for the story. Think about the first paragraph, this is the teaser that gets displayed on the front page so keep it punchy and to the point. Thats it really.

Right I've finally finished the new Abbey website. I'm not planning on making any sweeping changes for a while so if you have any problems or comments please get in contact. There are bound to be some teething troubles so the sooner you tell me the sooner I can have them sorted.

I'd like to replace the banner with something a little more interesting, if there are any graphic designers out there with some ideas then let me know.

Special thanks to goes to Liquid Modules Ltd who have kindly agreed to host the new website for free.
